Greetings!
Hi there! Yep, that’s me, Madeline, a regular looking Shih Tzu mix, on the day I arrived at the shelter. Hard to believe but after that photo was taken, I got really sick, really fast and almost died.
The shelter staff didn’t know that I had a bacterial infection in my uterus called pyometra. Pyometra is a very serious condition and must be treated quickly and aggressively; otherwise, the toxic effects from the bacteria will be fatal in many cases. All the more reason to spay your female pets as soon as possible!
Anyway, I had emergency surgery at Harford Emergency Referral & Veterinary Services (HERVS), and I’m here today because the shelter’s Phoenix Fund was there for me when I needed it.
